How will the assessment be completed?
Our assessments are flexible; however, we do require certain aspects to be completed face-to-face at our Liverpool hub just so we can pick up on cues that we can’t detect via a video call.
Our Liverpool hub is centrally located and always offers a warm, welcoming environment where you will feel comfortable and supported throughout.

Our Autism Assessment Process
Here at Autism & ADHD Assessment Hub we have a simple 6-step process to complete your autism assessment in Liverpool that applies to both children and adults. This will provide you with a clear, yet detailed breakdown of your result.
1. Referral
Once we have received your referral, we will send you our welcome pack which includes all the information you require before beginning your assessment journey. Included will be a self-referral form which will need to be completed before progressing to step 2.
2. Initial Consultation
A member of our team will arrange an Initial Consultation with one of our experienced clinicians, either by telephone or secure video link, whichever suits you best. During this appointment, you'll have the opportunity to discuss your experiences, concerns, and goals in more detail. Together, you and your clinician will decide whether a full assessment is the right next step and, importantly, which assessment pathway is most appropriate for your individual needs.
3. ADOS Assessment
Our ADOS-2 assessment tool reviews communication, social skills, play, behaviour and interests. It gives us an accurate insight into how you communicate and engage with others. This take 1-2 hours and is completed face-to-face at one our local assessment hubs.
4. Clinical Interview
You are over halfway. Our second assessment will be completed by the same clinician who you met with at your initial consultation. During this, they will complete the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R). For children this session is usually completed by the parent or guardian, and adults you’ll lead this session, but you’ll be asked to bring along an informant. Someone who knows you well, and ideally from childhood.
5. Report
Both assessments are now complete, and we have the information we need! Our expert team will meet within one week of your final assessment to discuss their findings and compile this into an easy-to-understand report.
6. Feedback
We will invite you for a 30-45 minute chat about your report, this is where we can explain this in detail, provide you with clarity, recommend ongoing support and answer any questions. You are welcome to bring a family member along. This is completed over the phone or online via video link.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the advantages to gaining a diagnosis?
There are multiple benefits to gaining a diagnosis.
A diagnosis can help people with autism to access interventions that are helpful to them, in terms of meeting requirements for safety, acceptability, efficacy and effectiveness with people meeting the same diagnostic criteria.
A diagnosis can also ensure that reasonable adjustments are made to a person with autism’s care and that interventions are appropriately adapted.
An autism diagnosis can help facilitate access to other forms of statutory protection. For example, an autism diagnosis may be considered when a person seeks an Education, Health and Care Plan.
For some people, receiving a diagnosis may serve as validation in terms of them understanding themselves and their individual outlook on the world. This might also help to alleviate any feelings of difference and boost confidence. This can also assist in enabling people to access greater social support from within the autistic community.
Do I need a GP referral?
No – you can self-refer for an assessment through the Autism Assessment Hub via our Make a Referral page.
Do you offer financing options?
Yes, we offer flexible payment options over 3, 6, 9 and 12months.
Can I claim for the assessment through my health insurance?
No. We don’t currently accept funding via private health insurance providers.
How do I go about getting a private diagnosis?

From what age can you assess a child?
Potentially from the age of 4 for autism, and age 6 for ADHD but we will always be clear on the appropriateness of an assessment.
What is your waiting time for an appointment?
Currently we are able to offer a first assessment appointment within 2 – 4 weeks of an initial screening.
Will my assessment be face to face or remote?
At least one session will be face to face, usually the ADOS-2 session for autism and combined assessments, and the initial consultation for ADHD only assessments. Other sessions as part of the pathway will likely be remote offering you flexibility.
