A Space to Be Understood: Returning to Neuro Divas for a Conversation on PDA

Nov 6, 2025

At the beginning of October, we were really pleased to return to Neuro Divas, a Birmingham-based support group for autistic and ADHD women. It’s a space that continues to grow as a community built on confidence and connection. A place where women can share experiences, learn from one another or simply exist without the need to explain.

Our Clinical Directors, Dr Jess and Dr Zoe, led this second session which focused on Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), a profile often associated with autism that involves an anxiety-driven need to be in control and an intense resistance to everyday demands.

The discussion was open, thoughtful, and deeply validating. Together, we explored what PDA can look like in everyday life, how it is often misunderstood, and how approaching it through a compassionate lens can make a real difference to both individuals and their support networks.

There was a real sense of connection in the room and by the end, the group had already invited us back for another session in March next year, which we are thrilled about.

It has been such a joy to have built such a positive relationship with Neuro Divas and to be part of their journey in creating community-led support for autistic and ADHD women in Birmingham.

If you’re local and looking for a welcoming, understanding space to connect, Neuro Divas meets every Thursday morning at:

The Sanctuary, 200 Tangmere Drive, Birmingham, B35 6EE

We’ll continue to support the incredible work that groups like Neuro Divas are doing, creating spaces where people feel seen and supported.
